Welcome:
Women's Health Associates was founded in 1987 as a multidisciplinary, hospital-based practice dedicated to the comprehensive care of women. Over the last 20 years we have evolved into a group of eight primary care practitioners with part-time subspecialists.
In January of 2007, we relocated to our current location at 111 Plain Street. Our office has a full-time laboratory and the convenience of the resources available at Rhode Island Hospital campus which is adjacent to our building.
Our Mission:
Our goal is to provide excellent, comprehensive primary care for our patients with attention to the specific needs of the female patient. We strive to create a safe, comfortable environment that encourages both communication and education.
We are an Academic Practice:
Women's Health Associates is an academic practice, meaning that our physicians are faculty for residents at Brown University's Internal Medicine Residency as well as the medical school. We often have resident physicians working in our office. Residents are already doctors but are completing training in internal medicine. If a resident is working with your physician, you will be notified when scheduling your appointment. The resident will do the initial evaluation and then your physician will see you as well. The practice also sponsors research projects designed to advance the care of women. Patients are welcome to participate if they are interested.
Appointment Hours:
Monday thru Friday 8 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
Sick Visits:
Every effort will be made to have you seen by your assigned physician. If your doctor is unavailable you will be scheduled to see another member of our practice. We are not a walk-in clinic so please call to make an appointment and we will accommodate you as quickly as possible. If you are experiencing a medical emergency please call 911.
Antibiotics:
It is our policy that we do not prescribe antibiotics over the phone. We feel it is important to include a physical exam in the decision to prescribe these medications. For this reason we will make every effort to fit patients in for sick visits quickly.

After Hours Coverage:
In the event of an after hours emergency, you can be connected to the covering physician by calling our office number (444-3355) and speaking with the on-call operator. For routine questions please call during regular business hours.
Referral Process:
We have developed a network of excellent subspecialists for referral when required. In addition we have several specialists who work out of our office for your convenience:
Prescription Refill Process:
Please allow 24-48 hours for refills due to issues with insurance coverage at pharmacies.
Laboratory:
A Lifespan lab is located on the ground floor of our building.
Hours are Monday to Friday:
8:30 am to 12 pm and 1pm to 5pm
Directions and Parking:
From North of Providence
95 South to Exit 19 (Eddy Street). Stay to the right (Borden Street) and at the stop sign take a right on to Borden Street. At the next stop sign go straight. Our parking lot will be immediately on the left.
From West of Providence
Take 195 West to Exit 1A (Point Street). Go straight thru the light and take a left at the next light (Clifford Street). Take the next left (W. Franklin Street) and then stay in the right lane and veer right onto Plain Street. At the corner of Plain Street and Borden turn right onto Borden Street. Our parking lot is located immediately to the left.
From South of Providence
Take 95 North to Exit 20 (Point Street). Go straight thru the first light and follow signs for the hospital which will have you turn left on Clifford Street. Take a left onto W. Franklin Street. Veer right onto Plain Street. Turn right at Borden Street. Our parking lot is immediately on the left.
