Our Goals
Purpose (The unique role UM plays in the community)
UM's ability to integrate the three missions of patient care, teaching and research into "a greater good" is what gives UM meaning and purpose and sets it apart from all other internal medicine practices in the state of Rhode Island. It is by embracing all three missions that we provide a unique service to our patients, our colleagues and to the worldwide community.
Principles (UM will adhere to these values when making decisions about future directions)
The goals of our organization are embedded in the tripartite mission of patient care, research and teaching.
- We provide compassionate, accessible, evidence-based, state-of-the-art quality medical care to our patients
- We excel in research that leads to the improvement of healthcare locally, nationally and internationally
- We use our clinical expertise and scientific knowledge to teach the clinicians, educators and investigators of tomorrow
- We promote citizenship through provision of care to disadvantaged populations, volunteering in local agencies and leadership in professional organizations
- We promote the individual growth and professional accomplishments of all of our employees
- We maintain integral partnerships with members of our community (other academic groups, our hospitals, our medical school, individual practitioners and the community at large.)
