Hypertension & Kidney Diseases

The Division of Hypertension & Kidney Diseases runs an outpatient nephrology practice in an academic setting. The primary goal of the practice is superlative patient care, but the practice also involves teaching of medical resident and nephrology fellows. Patients are given the option to participate in a number of clinical research trials in nephrology and hypertension.

The practice accepts patients, upon referral, for a wide variety of clinical problems, including but not limited to acute and chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure, proteinuria (protein in the urine), hematuria (blood in the urine), kidney stones, urinary tract infections and fluid and electrolyte abnormalities. There are specialized clinics for hypertension, featuring 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and hyperlipidemia, and a specialized clinic for diabetic renal disease, in conjunction with the Hallett Diabetes Center, is in the planning stages.
