The University Medicine Foundation is composed of nine distinct medical specialties, also known as Divisions. To learn more about a specific Division please select its name from the list below.
  • Endocrinology - Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, osteoporosis, thyroid disorders, pituitary disorders, adrenal disorders, calcium disorders, and other problems of hormones and metabolism, through the Hallett Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at Rhode Island Hospital

  • Gastroenterology - Specializing in general gastroenterology, H. Pylori infection, gastric cancer, colon cancer and colon cancer screening, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), Barrett's esophagus, esophageal motility disorders, acute and chronic liver diseases including viral hepatitis, hepatobiliary disease, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

  • Geriatrics - Specializing in comprehensive assessments and care for individuals 55 years and older.

  • Hematology/Oncology - Specializing in the treatment of cancer, anemia, clotting problems and blood disorders.

  • Hospitalist Medicine - Specializing in caring for the hospitalized patient.

  • Hypertension & Kidney Diseases - Specializing in acute and chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure, proteinuria (protein in the urine), hematuria (blood in the urine), kidney stones, urinary tract infections and fluid and electrolyte abnormalities.

  • Infectious Diseases - Specializing in patients with a myriad of infectious diseases, including those with immunodeficiency, such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, as well as infections related to hospitalization. This division also houses The Travel Medicine Service at The Miriam Hospital, which is widely recognized as a leader in tropical medicine and international health and is the largest travel medicine center in Rhode Island.

  • Primary Care - (Internal Medicine and Family Medicine) Internal Medicine focuses on prevention and treatment of illness in adults. Family Medicine spans a broader patient population, from infancy to adulthood.

  • Pulmonary & Critical Care - Specializing in in-patient pulmonary consultation services, outpatient pulmonary clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation, and sleep disorders medicine.

  • Rheumatology - Specializing in joint pain, arthritis, lupus, gout, and other inflammatory joint and muscle diseases.
